Growing up in New Orleans, Chris learned to appreciate music from a young age. He was inspired by his father and other artists to develop skills in blues, jazz, classical, Flamenco, rock, and other styles of guitar. Chris later befriended Ellie Manette, the founder of the modern steel drum, and got involved in world drumming. Chris developed an after-school program to teach steel drumming to an underprivileged group of 11- and 12-year-olds, and this further inspired his pursuit of a career in percussion. Chris has played and taught in a number of drum corps and marching bands, including the UF Drum Line. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music and Percussion Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. Chris served as Percussion Graduate Assistant at the University of Florida, where he earned his Master of Music in Percussion Performance degree in 2006.
In private lessons and classes, for all ages, Chris has taught various styles of guitar since he was in high school, and many styles of percussion since 1999. He was the music teacher at Williston Elementary for a year. His students and students' parents have praised him as "very professional", able to "vary the difficulty of the lesson to the ability of the student" and "positive and upbeat." His former and current mentors laud his character, talent and dedication. A veteran of the Kaley School and a highly reputable teaching figure in the community, Chris is able to customize his curriculum for students wishing to learn or improve upon specific styles of guitar or percussion, including marching band and rock, as well as for students interested in classical guitar instruction. He also teaches electric bass, specializing in rock and jazz techniques.
